Committee meeting synopsis
Meeting date: 5 June, 2017
Our meeting started with the sad news that we would be losing two of our
Committee members. Jean Stratford resigned for personal reasons: she had
authored the two walks using the Mid-Norfolk Railway and the one still in
production using Konect bus services to North Elmham, and had been a major part
of our
Walking in Wonderland event at
Easter, as well as making contributions generally to our work. We also lost
Neil Cliff, who had represented Dereham U3A, but who recently had stood down
from U3A; U3A will now be represented by Sue Rothwell, already a member of the
Committee in her own right. We thank them both for their help and wish them well
for the future.
We were pleased to have a snapshot of the usage of our website in April, when
our walks had been downloaded quite a few times - around 60 each for the 4 walks
in the printed pack, and around 40 each for the Mid-Norfolk Railway walks. Yet
more content had been added to the website, keeping it up to date with events
and plans.
We reviewed our May
Tud Valley Walk,
which had again attracted positive comment, as well as making a contribution to
our bank balance. Plans for future walks were also discussed. The next will be
on Monday 28 August, followed by a repeat of the Garden Party walks (not
necessarily the same routes) on 1 October. We are still undecided as to whether
we will be entering walks for the Norfolk County Council Cycling & Walking
Festival during October, but will definitely be holding another New Year’s Day
walk to start 2018.
Much of the rest of our time was spent finalising plans for our Annual Public
Meeting on 15 June, including deciding on some small changes which we felt were
needed to our Constitution (to be put before the APM).
There were as ever other matters to be discussed, which will be reported as they
come more towards fruition.
