Walk details
flyer (pdf).
The 'walk' started in Dereham town centre at 10:30 prompt to catch the number 4
Konect bus to Mattishall. Some people made their own way to Mattishall, so the
walk (proper) started with a briefing near the church.
We set out along a brick walled alleyway through the oldest part of Mattishall,
and then threaded our way through the village using the public footpaths between
houses and gardens. As we left the village the vista opened into a rich panorama
with multiple shades of green, defined under a fluffy blanket of cloud:
The route was well defined, but single file in places following recent rain and
subsequent rapid growth. As usual the path snaked its way around field
boundaries and along ancient lanes:
Dereham Walkers are Welcome guided walks seems to have gained a reputation for
involving some form of refreshment stop. Usually it is at the end, but this
walk was slightly different ... as we reached about half distance the
tea/coffee and home made cakes came to us courtesy of a 'tuck' stop. With table
cloths and china plates, it appeared as if we were in the most spacious
coffee shop in the world.
