Simnel Cake Walk - 15 April, 2017
Continuing the developing practice of linking to other Dereham attractions,
Dereham Walkers are Welcome held their successful
simnel cake walk, in
conjunction with Dereham Windmill.
The weather was perfect, a cool breeze with sunny intervals.
28 walkers enjoyed a 6½ mile walk exploring walking routes to the east of
the town. Dereham WaW were pleased to reveal yet more of the varied landscape
around the town - including to those in the party from as far afield as Norwich
and Denver. Starting at the Windmill, the walk crossed the A47 on to the Old
Hall Lane track, crossing the foot bridge the views open up to a typical central
Norfolk vista:
Then leaving Old Hall Lane to get on to the Dumpling Green track across the open
ground of the Tud Valley.
The route then turned north to cross the busy A47 to
Etling Green, finally heading back around Neatherd Moor, past the High School
and back to the Windmill
The volunteers at the Windmill efficiently provided coffee or tea and Simnel
Cake to the hungry party, many of whom were happy to sit outside in the
beautiful setting of the restored mill.
The Windmill (and its Coffee Shop) continues to be open to visitors every
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10:00-4:00 - see
www.derehamwindmill.co.uk for more information.
