Mid-summer walking
Midsummer evening walk across Rushmeadow

At the end of a hot couple of days, our evening walk took place at a reasonable temperature. We were pleased to be joined by two walkers hailing from Preston, though we have to admit they didn’t come to Dereham just for our walk - though they were holidaying in the area.

We set off up Sandy Lane, including the unsurfaced section adjacent to the golf course, before descending on Footpaths 18 and 34 to pass through the woods and along the boardwalk to reach the stream running through Rushmeadow.

Walking on a wide track under trees

A pleasant streamside walk brought us out on to Rushmeadow Road. Temporarily crossing the Parish boundary we found ourselves in Scarning rather than Dereham, we followed this to cross Dereham Road to Church Farm Lane and then down the path to come out at the bottom of Washbridge.

A few more yards took us back to our starting point, from which many of us went to The Romany Rye to finish the evening with a meal.
