Heritage Open Days walk

Church Street (start)

The joint Dereham Walkers are Welcome and Dereham Heritage Trust walk for Heritage Open Days took place as planned on Saturday 20 September.

The 2 mile walk visited a number of buildings significant to the town’s rich and varied history. They included many which were themselves open either as normal or as part of Heritage Open Days. Our party of 15 (the maximum we could safely and effectively accommodate) visited, amongst others, St Nicholas’ Church and Bell Tower, St Withburga’s Well, Bishop Bonner’s Cottage Museum, the Guildhall, the town sign, the Corn Hall (now the cinema), the Assembly Rooms, Hill House, the Maltings, the railway station (now operated by Mid-Norfolk Railway) and the Memorial Hall.

St Withburga's Well

Our thanks go to Caroline Rawlings and Robena Brown for providing historical and other information about the sites visited.

All participants received an illustrated booklet enabling them to retrace the route whenever they wished.

Download the booklet (pdf).
