In a walk of two halves, our Friday group set off from the Windmill up Cherry Lane and past the school to The Neatherd. We followed Queen Mother’s Avenue and continued across to the footpath leading to Swanton Road - though our course was east along the northern edge of The Neatherd and on to Etling Green. (This took us along the edge of what is developing into the country park, which we will be examining in more detail in our evening walk on 14 June.)
It was as we neared Etling Green that the rain began as a gentle put persistent and quite wetting shower. Happily, everyone was prepared for this, so after a brief pause to don hats and rain-wear, we continued, returning along the southern edge of The Neatherd, through the Little Neatherd and back through the houses to the Windmill, where many of us stayed to enjoy the Partea Hut’s refreshments.
