Committee meeting synopsis

Meeting date: 19 February, 2018

We had quite a few things to review at our February meeting.

We have been involved in the developing Dereham Community and Voluntary Groups organisation. Although it has yet to agree formal terms, the intention is to encourage the sharing and linking up of groups working in Dereham, with the aim of raising the town’s profile and advertising what it has to offer to residents and visitors. Our particular interest is in promoting Dereham as a tourist destination, which sits fours square with the objectives of Walkers are Welcome. Plans are being considered for a website to be launched, but in the meantime, a leaflet advertising Dereham’s charms is set to be distributed to every household in the town (and near surroundings) with the next Dereham Memorial Hall brochure.

Plans are advancing for our two Easter events. On Saturday 31 March, we are arranging an event for children and families. This will involve a Treasure Hunt around the Neatherd - our aim is to encourage children to be out and about (and have a good time). On Monday 2 April, we will hold our next walk. For this occasion, we are starting (and ending) at Gressenhall Museum - coffee and cake will be taken in the Café there.

Gressenhall event delayed, see revised Easter MNR train walk event flyer.

Further walk dates are Monday 28 May, Saturday 16 June and Monday 27 August. The June date will also be our Annual Public Meeting, which will be held after the walk. We hope that, as well as enjoying the walk, supporters will stay on to help us shape our future plans.

Having taken delivery of our new walks packs, we are looking at distributing them around the town. The main outlet will continue to be the Library, plus the Town Council offices, but we hope to place them in addition in the businesses that have taken our stickers.
