Committee meeting synopsis
Meeting date: 10 July, 2017
Another busy meeting saw us moving forward on a number of fronts.
Publicity is important to us, in a number of ways, and ran through a number of
our items for discussion. We are looking to source a cheap banner that we can
use to advertise our presence at events and discussed a number of options from
buying one to doing it ourselves: we are optimistic we will find something we
can afford.
At the other end of the acquisition process, we were awaiting
delivery of some small “Improved for you by Walkers are Welcome” plaques that we
can fix to signposts when we have undertaken significant clearance or other
improvement works. We are grateful to Dereham Town Council for purchasing these
for us, and are pleased to acknowledge that support on the plaque.
A third initiative is to distribute as many as possible of our window stickers
to businesses in the town: these are freely available, and we decided a
mechanism for taking them round during the next couple of months. Finally, we
were pleased to welcome Carolyn Selby who visited us to enlighten us about the
pluses and minuses of social media, and what we would need to do to make this
work for us.
Publicity is good, but it is of course the means to the bigger end - walking.
Further discussion took place about our next venture - Bank Holiday Monday 28
August. We firmed up the plans for a walk taking in Yaxham, ending at Yaxham
Waters with the now mandatory coffee and cake. View
more information and booking details.
Further thought was also given to the ‘Garden Party’ walk on 1 October, and a
planned walk in half term week to fit in with the Norfolk County Council Walking
& Cycling Festival.
We continue to offer support to colleagues trying to develop WaW in Aylsham and
Swaffham, and are hoping to have another get together (also including the very
thriving Cromer WaW) before too long.
As can be seen, this is a busy programme, relying on a small number of people.
We are very open to offers of additional assistance: we are particularly looking
for someone who might really take on the social media side of things, and
someone who will be our first aider on walks. But most of all, we would be happy
to have the fresh ideas and perspective that anyone and everyone brings - and
it’s good fun too! So, please feel free to contact us if you have a bit of time
to spare.
